Steam is one of the most popular and well-liked gaming platforms in the world. It has its fair share of haters, of course, but the catch is that there are so many great Steam games on offer. Whether you’re a seasoned Steam gamer or a brand-new player, there is something for everyone here. Many of the best Steam games have been released within the last year, with many of them being released as part of a limited release. It’s a great way to explore the platform and see what all the fuss is about. And don’t forget to give the game! There are loads of great games on offer for you to download and play. After all, what’s the point of trying to learn how to play chess when you can just listen to the sounds and music? So here is a list of the best Steam games for you.
1. Game of Thrones: The Card Game
If you love fantasy games, you’ll love this game. It’s a card game based on the popular fantasy novel series, “The Song of Ice and Fire”. Take on the roles of various characters and battle with other players around the world who may or may not be based on famous authors. The game offers a wide range of types of characters, from the easy-to-use Lannister to the more difficult Lannister Prince. There are multiple card types, including cards for all the major factions, as well as a colorful new game mode called “Unconventional Warfare”. The card game is Ethereum-based, meaning you can play it anywhere.
2. Devil May Cry 4
A must-have for everyone who loves to cheerlead, and has also been waiting for a long time for a JRPG to come out with devil May cry in the title. Devil May Cry 4 made a name for itself with its open-ended, single-player campaign, which featured a lot of cutscenes and cutscenes that you could watch, and then some while drinking your coffee. The story is one of many great themes running throughout Devil May Cry 4, and it makes perfect sense that the story would fall into this themed category. The game features a lot of humor, some of it crude, but none of it shows behind the scenes or hidden depths. The game also features a lot of outfits and accessories that you can change into, which can be a real-time management/strategy hybrid or a free-for-all shoot-em-up.
3. Darkest Dungeon
This game takes the format of a single-player campaign, with an underground fantasy theme. You play as a hero named Darksong, who comes out of the Libyan desert with powers that allow him to scythe through people’s souls. After finding your Guides, a number of locales, you move forward in a quest to save the people of that particular area. Darkest Dungeon has a lot of charm, not just due to its beautiful visuals, but its unique atmosphere as well. You play as a man who has been transformed by an enormous spirit into a living weapon, and you must do your best to stop it from attacking those around you. It is a very fun and rewarding game to play, especially during the month of October when there are many special events and deals happening in the city. It’s also worth noting that the game’s Kickstarter funding goal was reached in just under a week, so if you want some extra sauce for your steamed-up liver, you can probably score it cheaper on Steam.
4. Dungeon Fighter Online
This is one of the most popular game modes on the market, and one of the most requested features from Steam users. The announcement of this mode almost single-handedly brought Final Fantasy XV onto the market and made it a household name. The only downside is that it takes a pretty long time to earn your first rank, and there’s no way to “rank up” once you’ve reached the first rank. The only way to get a second rank is to get frustrated and Orcish, as your primary enemies are. The game mode is multiplayer, with two types of opponents: Home Teams and Online Teams. The Home Teams allow you to select your own team of dwarves, while the Online Teams are good for any number of players, with each player being able to select which community they want to fight in.
5. Final Fantasy XV: A New Beginning
This is the first numbered game in the Final Fantasy series and is actually the first game in the entire series made on Switch. You play as the lead character, Tidus, a wandering warrior who is transformed by theahl into a hero after he awakens from a battle. The game also features a number of other characters, one of whom you can play in the Choose Your Own Adventure series. The game modes are almost identical between Final Fantasy XV: A New Beginning and Final Fantasy XV, with the only difference being the addition of a “buy and sell” system where you can choose to buy or sell things for real money. There are also other features that make this game stand out, like death management, where you take control of your fallen allies, and a number of weapon and piece-type mechanics that will make or break your character.

6. Death Stranding
This one is for the completists. Death Stranding is one of the most recognizable and well-liked games in the entire world. It has a fantastic soundtrack, loads of blood and guts, and a very twisted and sardonic sense of humor. Apart from that, it’s a great way to get in touch with some of the Psychodrama subcultures that have been building up in recent years. There’s even a great novel based on the game by Suzanne Foote. This should be in your Steam library at all times.
7. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
This is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Not only is it the first release on the best of all-time list, but it is also the first game to be released on Universal Console. This means that it will be available on just about every platform that all of the major systems like Xbox One, PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch will support. This includes Mac, iOS, Android, and TV. It’s a must-have for anyone who owns a modern gaming system.
8. Monster Hunter World
This is a unique addition to the best of all-time list. It is one of the biggest hits on the gaming market and has seen millions of sales in just a few years. It is also the first Pokémon game since the original (legacy) and Disney’s Aladdin to be a part of the Best of the Globally Indebted Games (BOGG) list. As you would expect, the reception has been amazing, with people clocking out in record time to buy the game. It’s a must-own for Hunters and Hunters of all ages.
9. Warframe
This is another one of those games that made the cut but are still overlooked. It is a first-person shooter that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. It has a great blend of action and strategy and is definitely one of the most interesting games on the market. Apart from that, it is also one of the most challenging and original games in the genre. If you are a fan of Old School games, you will definitely like this, as it has that retro aesthetic that many of the games on this list have. But the thing is, this one got a spot in the top ten too.
10. DOTA 2
This is perhaps the most popular and well-liked MMORPG in the world. The servers are rapidly filling up and there are tons of new updates being added almost every month. You can play as a hero or as a villain and take part in lots of interesting activities, such as assassination, duels of the gods, and much, much more. There are tons of new and old school DLCs being released all the time, so be sure to check out theITCH. That’s right, the games are now in the official store.
11. Cities Skylines
This is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. It is a first-person observation game set in the tinkerers’ town of CCC where you play as an out-of-the-ordinary character called the “Invisible Man”. It’s a great way to spend a while and get some inspiration. Apart from that, you can also check out the Games for Windows Store and Play. Club’s list of the best games for Windows 10 as well as the best games for Windows 8. There’s also a great chance that you will love one of these games so much that you will pick it up on its own.
12. Persona 4 Golden
This is one of those games that got overlooked in favor of its sequels. It makes the top ten on the best of all-time list and is an excellent way to start your gaming journey. Apart from that, though, there is one particular aspect about it that stands out to me. It is the fact that it takes place in a post-apocalyptic world after a great war. That is what really set it apart from the crowd and made it stand out. Also, there is a beautiful soundtrack that will stay in your mind for days. This is a must-have for anyone who loves the games of old.
13. GTA 5
This is one of the most popular and well-liked games in the world. It received a lot of praise for its retro design and a good amount of content, but it is also a great way to start your gaming journey. Apart from that, it also comes with a great Linux port which is one of the best things about it. There is a strong community online and there is a big selection of games to choose from. If you are a fan of action, adventure, and wit, this is a great way to start your gaming journey.

14. Terraria
This is one of the newer titles on the best of all-time list. It comes with a great sense of humor and is a great way to get your feet wet with the platforming game. This can be a very difficult game to pick up, but once you get it going, it is really fun. There is also a great range of items and spells to pick up and use, which makes the game more exciting and interesting. This can be Character only or Multiplayer.
15. Crusader Kings 3
Clovercourt is a stunning new online strategy game from developer Cryptic. This is the third installment in the groundbreaking series, which started in the 1980s, and it continues the legacy of the original two games. The combat is accessibility, with crosswords and word games thrown in for good measure, and it’s a real treat to pick up and play as soon as you get a chance to get used to it. Just keep in mind that it’s a new release and there’s a lot to learn! loved it, and recommend it highly.
16. Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal is the latest entry in the Doom series. This is the first Doom game that I’ve ever played via the Vita and I’m so glad I got my hands on it! This is a first-person shooter developed by 2K and published by SIE and it’s absolutely beautiful to look at. The aesthetic is nothing short of stunning, and the storyline is pretty interesting as well. There’s nothing really wrong with this game, really, other than it comes out of the gate with a really heavy emphasis on strategy and strategy-building. This is a great game to start off with and see how you enjoy it before moving on to something a little more strategic, but don’t rush it. Doom is such a classic title and it’s great to see it getting a fresh update this year.
17. Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is a Harvest Moon-like game, but instead of veggies you pick up and cultivate you build your own house and use the money from selling stuff to buy upgrades and other items. It takes place in a world where people have been polishing their skills and building up their Temples for millennia, and the ones that make it to the very end are the most beautiful. This is a beautiful game to look at, has stunning visuals, and is extremely easy to pick up and play. If you’re a person who loves to create and play lots of different sorts of games, this is a great introduction to the platform.
18. Journey
The journey is probably the most-hypscribed action game on Steam, and it’s also one of the most loved. This is a first-person adventure game, but you play as a single-player character making your way through a fantasy-filled world as you save people from ruin. This is a very hit-or-miss game, but I absolutely love this one. It’s such a great combination of action, humor, and fantasy, and it’s been getting plenty of love from the community too. There are lots of different modes, everything from single-player to online co-op and even a JobBoard where you can track your progress through the game and see who’s doing what job. Do yourself a favor and give Journey a spin and see what you think!
19. Final Fantasy 14
Final Fantasy is a phenomenal franchise and it has been getting tons of love from the community, which is nice. This Final Fantasy game is based on the popular light novel series and it involves war, magic, and romance, so you’re in for some really interesting RPG action. The world has been changed by the threat of a super-natural virus, and you play as an ordinary man who wakes up from a coma and is taken up against the most dangerous sorcerers in all of the time. The game takes place in a fantasy-based world, which is pretty interesting, but the best part is the array of Final Fantasy character skins you can choose from!
20. Apex Legends
Apex Legends is a free-to-play mobile card game that is backed by Realm of the Legends. This is a massive platform that allows you to create your own decks of cards, play card games with friends and even participate in tournaments with other players. You can create your own decks of cards using various themes, play various card games and create your own unique decks using popular theme cards. Anyone can create a deck, but a well-trained player can become a pro at it. This is a very fun mobile game that is definitely worth a look if you like card games.
21. Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is an action role-playing game that was released in 2012. The story is pretty typical, you play as a character who wakes up in a world where everything is turned to stone and filled with blood, corpses, and ghouls. You have to fight your way through hordes of bloodthirsty creatures to capture the Queen of the Dead and bring her back to life. This game takes place in a fantasy world, with magic and fantasy elements, so it’s got a lot of appeals. However, the best part about this game is the “mission” section which allows you to perform tons of different tasks in order to complete the game. There’s even a “medicine shop” section that offers various kinds of medical supplies, plus you can also hire professional healers for a fee.
22. Dishonored 2
Dishonored 2 is not only a sequel, but it’s also a prequel. The story is almost identical to the first game, except this time you are in the fictional city of York and you are trying to save the city from a nefarious organization. It’s a great concept, but the execution is just as important so we can’t fault the game for not being great. The story is really simple, you just play as a character who wakes up as a red-haired mutant in Gotham City, and you have to save the day as much as possible. This game is very reasonably priced, so you’re not paying for the privilege of being a part of a super-powered group.
23. Destiny 2
Destiny is an action game that features the Taken King, a weapon that has been exclusive to the Master Chief. This is a boss that is very challenging to kill, with tons of guns and cars and other items to help you along. This game takes place in a fantasy-based world and there are a lot of familiar faces from the first game. The main difference though is that you play as an agent for the FBI which is trying to protect the human race from a nefarious organization. This is a very different take on the formula, and it’s pretty fun.
24. Return of the Obra Dinn
This is a completely different take on the Millionaire Match-3 game. Instead of playing as a rich person you play as a poor man trying to complete all the challenges and earn money in order to compete on the global stage. This is a very fantasy-like game and it takes place in an alternate reality where magic is real and you’re fighting against the forces of darkness. There are a lot of different challenges and objectives to take on, but the one thing that sets this game apart from the others is the art gallery. You can view the art and designs of every single character in the game and learn a lot about his or her personality.
25. Destiny 2
The best part about Destiny 2 is that it is everything you loved about the first game, plus more. It is incredibly fun, it is challenging, and it is rewarding. It is a musical experience, it is strategic, and it is challenging. The only downside to this is that it is pricey, but that is only because it is a new entry in the console market. If you are looking for a new challenge and want a more challenging experience, then this is your chance. The only downside is that it is not available on any other platform
Final Words
There are loads of great games on offer for the Steam platform. You’re likely to find at least one that you like, and there are plenty more that you won’t. It’s a good idea to try out all the games on offer, in order to make sure you’re matched up against the best. If you don’t find anything you like, or it doesn’t do anything for you, you can always try a few of the modchip (free) or pocos (cost) versions of the games. These are usually cheaper but are mostly unfinished, and probably won’t do anything for you. Besides that, there’s nothing wrong with just listening to the sounds and music, and going for some laughs. So, with that in mind, here are the best Steam games for you.
